ABOUT JOB:
The EPICS Controls Engineer position in Benicia, CA, is a senior-level role involving a combination of software engineering and system integration tasks. The main responsibilities focus on supporting the EPICS Controls infrastructure for X-ray experimental systems, with key tasks in software development, system support, and collaboration with scientists and engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- EPICS support: Maintain and improve EPICS-based controls for scanning, detectors, and motion systems.
- Collaboration: Work with other staff, including engineers and scientists, to deliver solutions for Sigray’s products.
- Documentation: Write technical documentation and procedures for software and hardware systems.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of EPICS database configurations and EPICS base.
- Experience with SYNAPPS and motion controls.
- Familiarity with EPICS and Channel Access (CA) for peer-to-peer networks.
- Experience with containerization and virtualization in Linux environments.
- Exposure to major desktop operating systems (primarily Linux, with some experience in Windows and macOS).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for team collaboration.
- Ability to provide user support, both remotely and before equipment delivery.
- Diagnostic skills for hardware support and multitasking under tight deadlines.
Desired Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, Computing Sciences field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Synchrotron or Neutron Beamlines (high-energy X-ray/Neutron systems).
- Experience with Windows and Linux sysadmin.
- Experience writing EPICS drivers, particularly for detectors.
